As Zhang Yuming, Chairman of Xingtai Steel, and distinguished guests pressed the start button together, the tapping cantilever and tapping roller table slowly activated, marking the official entry of some equipment at this special steel base — with a total investment of 13.2 billion yuan and covering an area of 3,217 mu — into the commissioning phase. This commissioning not only represents a key milestone in Xingtai Steel's transformation into a green and intelligent benchmark enterprise but also reflects the firm strides of Hebei's iron and steel industry toward high-quality development.

Integrating Germany's KOCKS three-roll reducing and sizing mill, the latest generation of winding machine from Primetals Technologies (USA), this production line adopts a number of cutting-edge special steel rolling technologies including intelligent heating, thermomechanical rolling, controlled rolling and cooling, full-line automated control, and a new coil transportation system. "This will ensure that our high-end products such as Φ16-52mm bearing steel, automotive spring steel, alloy cold heading steel, and non-heat-treated steel will comprehensively reach international advanced levels in process energy consumption, dimensional accuracy, and product quality performance, continuously consolidating Xingtai Steel's 'golden brand' in the large coil sector," stated Ma Baoliang, Deputy General Manager of Xingtai Steel, noting that this commissioning signifies significant progress in the relocation and transformation project.

"The large coil production line is the core 'jewel' of Xingtai Steel's relocation and transformation project, undertaking the mission of high-end manufacturing in China's iron and steel industry and serving as a key pillar for building a 'specialized production base for large-size high-quality special steel wire rods'. Our goal is to become an innovative leader in the international special steel long product sector," emphasized Zhang Yuming, Chairman of Xingtai Steel. He added that the company will focus on breaking through "bottleneck" product categories such as wind power steel and nuclear power steel in the future. This relocation and upgrading is not a simple transfer of production capacity but a transformative upgrade. The new plant adopts the internationally advanced "smelting reduction + electric furnace" short-process technology, leading a "revolutionary" innovation in the iron and steel industry. Among them, smelting reduction completely eliminates long-process procedures such as coking, sintering, and pelletizing, achieving "ultra-short process, ultra-low emission, and ultra-pure pig iron". The total annual pollutant emissions will be reduced by more than 61% compared with the old plant, and the comprehensive energy consumption per ton of steel will decrease by 18.7%. This project has become a landmark project for the modernization of Hebei's manufacturing industry and holds pioneering leading and exemplary significance for the green and low-carbon transformation of China's iron and steel industry.

The new technology will support Xingtai Steel in large-scale production of ultra-high-grade steel grades, meeting the stringent requirements of major national strategic fields such as aerospace, nuclear power, and national defense. Meanwhile, the company will deepen its focus on 18 product series, covering over 600 steel grades and more than 3,500 high-end products, fully serving key sectors including automobiles, high-speed railways, long-span bridges, electronics, and machinery manufacturing. With its strong capabilities in "superior processes, high-quality products, promising prospects, and stable market demand", Xingtai Steel is seizing the commanding heights of high-end manufacturing.

Xingtai Steel's high-end cold heading steel has attracted industrial chain synergy. A representative from a bearing enterprise in Ningbo, Zhejiang, acknowledged that Xingtai Steel's settlement in Weixian has helped reduce their transportation costs by 30%. Leveraging Xingtai Steel's leading role, Weixian has launched the construction of a special steel industrial park covering over 4,000 mu, focusing on the development of deep processing industries such as bearings and fasteners, with more than 20 supporting enterprises having settled in successively. It is estimated that after the project is put into full operation, it will directly create over 3,000 jobs and drive the formation of a 30-billion-yuan special steel industrial cluster, injecting strong new momentum into the regional economy.
